Today, we’re going to address a topic we want you to consider if you are in the planning stages for a new commercial construction project: using a geothermal system for your heating and cooling requirements. Geothermal continues to grow in popularity as a commercial and residential HVAC solution, but people sometimes feel hesitant about making the leap to using the energy of earth for their commercial buildings.

Below we’ve listed reasons you may wish to put commercial geothermal at the top of your list for a new commercial project:

Reduced costs to operate

We’ll start with the big reason most business owners consider going geothermal in the first place: their high efficiency that helps cut down on HVAC operating costs. This efficiency is especially remarkable for heating. Compared to standard air-source rooftop units, a geothermal system can be four to five times more efficient in heating mode. Unlike air-source systems, they don’t struggle in extreme low temperatures because they have access to the stable heat of the earth. You can expect a speedy return on your investment.

Beneficial to the environment

Geothermal systems are one of the best “green” tools available to businesses. They don’t burn any fossil fuels or release harmful emissions into the air. Their high efficiency lowers the demand on power plants and drops the need for burning coal. Because the ground loops use water, not a chemical refrigerant, there also isn’t any environmental danger from leaks.

Longevity

The internal heat pump components of a geothermal system will last around 15 to 20 years, which is often longer than exposed rooftop units. But the underground loops can last for more than 50 years. And they don’t require extensive, time-consuming maintenance either. Our technicians can handle regular maintenance for a geothermal system with little interruption to your workflow.

Flexibility

This is what often surprises people the most about geothermal systems—they can fit into more locations than they thought. Because of the ground loops, a geothermal system does require property space. But because of different loop configurations, our installers can fit an effective geothermal HVAC system into even small properties. Vertical drilling is one way we can provide great geothermal heating and cooling onto tight confines.
